Traditional East Coast Boats

Blackwater Sprite

The Sprite is a 14′ clinker built, centre-board, half decked sailing dinghy and was originally designed as a one class racing dinghy for West Mersea Yacht club.

The SPRITE Class was designed by Robert N. Stone in I937 as a fast day sailing boat for general use which could also be raced as a class. The boats are fast and well mannered and may be sailed without sitting out in most conditions. They are readily handled by one person if desired but the cockpit will hold four. The hull form is such that they can trailed without trouble behind an average car.

The sprite world championship is hosted by the Blackwater Sailing Club and will well attended with over 30 boats competing.

Many boats live on and most can be found racing every weekend across the tidal surges of the blackwater.
